Flipped Classroom Presentation

A good educator will always find ways to help his students acquire knowledge more effectively.

As a part of this objective, the College Dean, Dr. Azzah Ahmed Said Al Maskari laid a new instructional technique to the staff to promote effective learning outcomes for ICT students. On 19th April, 2017, a workshop/seminar was organized and conducted by the College Dean entitled Flipped Classroom Workshop which was attended by numerous academic staff from different departments.

Mainly, the workshop introduced the concept of an instructional strategy called Flipped Classroom; what are the benefits of this kind of strategy as well as how teachers will plan for this. The workshop also introduced the different technology and tools for designing a flipped classroom.

The concept of Flipped classroom is that it reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, often online, outside of the classroom. It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures, collaborate in online discussions, or carry out research at home and engage in concepts in the classroom with the guidance of a mentor.1

Participants were asked to perform some online individual and group activities to clearly elaborate how the Flipped Classroom is working. The dean provides numerous links and references for the teachers to fully understand how this instructional technique will benefit the ICT Students.
