An Interview with the Captain of the historic "Jewel of Muscat"

The ELC RCC conducted an interview with Captain Saleh Al Jabri, the skipper of the historic ship [ a look-alike of the 9th century Omani dhow that is thought to have sunk on its way back from China] Jewel of Muscat which was presented to the Singapore government as a royal gift by the Omani government.

The Omani sailors travelled like their 9th century ancestors following ancient navigation techniques and life style on board. They had to confront Cyclone Laila in Bay of Bengal. They weathered the storm and sailed their way to Singapore to a thunderous reception.

The Jewel of Muscat is indeed a jewel that needs to be preserved with pride. As a school-going child put it, Jewel of Muscat is an attempt to establish peace and harmony amidst wars and skirmishes.

This is part of ELC RCC’s efforts to come up with a theme-based reader for the foundation students. The interview was thought-provoking and inspiring. We are very sure that this will go a long way in educating and inspiring our students.
