A speech contest for the 50th Oman National Day for UTAS-Ibra students was conducted via MS Teams on December 2, 2020. The contest was participated in by 13 students from different levels. The event was organized by the English Society.
Top three speakers were chosen and awarded the following:
- First place: Alaa Hilal Ali Al Suti
- Second Place: Mezna Zahir Sulaiman
- Third Place: Tariq Hilal Al Sawafi and Ethar Ahmed Alazri
Mr. Salim Al Saadi, Head of Section for English Language Program, delivered a message to the event to encourage the students to study English well by joining extra-curricular activities organized by the English Society.
Dr. Thuraya Khalifa Salim Al-Riyami, Head of the Center, congratulated all the winners and motivated them to further hone their public speaking skills by being active in different activities.
Three judges who are qualified public speakers from Toastmasters International, scored the English speeches of each participant and selected the final winners. They are: Mr. Nasser Alshabibi, Mr. Meethiyan Kunju, Mr. Elamparithy Selvarasu and Ms. Sheetal Reddy.
The contest aims to establish a platform for the participants to communicate with each other and enhance their English and public speaking skills.
First place winner, Alaa Ali Al Suti receiving the prize from the HoC, Dr. Thuraya Khalifa Salim Al-Riyami, HoS CTM Mr. Hamdoon Khalfan Al Handhali and HoS ELP Mr. Salim Al Saadi.
Second place winner, Mezna Zahir Sulaiman receiving the prize from HoS ELP Mr. Salim Al Saadi.
Third place winner, Tariq Hilal Al Sawafi receiving the prize from HoS ELP Mr. Salim Al Saadi.
