IEEE-UTAS-Ibra Student Branch, in collaboration with IEEE Oman Section, hosted a national-wide webinar entitled “Introduction to Deep Learning” last February 10, 2021, from 12 - 2 PM (GST).
A total of 61 participants attended from different IEEE Student branches operating at various academic institutions in Oman. The event aimed to promote awareness of Deep Learning as a leading technology in different domains involving Identification Applications.
The resource speaker was Dr. Rajasekar Velswamy, an Associate Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technologies, Chennai, India. According to Dr. Rajasekar, Deep Learning is a subset of machine learning in Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has networks that are capable of learning unsupervised from data that is unstructured or unlabeled. He also stressed the latest developments and advancements in the Deep Learning field.
He also discussed Hidden Markov Model (HMM), Gaussian model, Neural Network layers, and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The speaker also mentioned some of interesting applications of Deep Learning such as face recognition, text translation, voice recognition, and advanced driver assistance systems, lane classification, and traffic sign recognition, which can be a good topic for student and faculty researches.
